About me

How I got started

I am a self-taught developer who embarked on the coding journey at the age of 12, experimenting with Lua to mod the popular PC game, Garry's Mod, on my mom's laptop. My early passion for coding led me to create mods that I successfully sold to server hosts, establishing a self-sufficient full-time job for myself during high school.

In my senior year, my friend Juan and I collaborated to develop the iOS game "Neo Shapes," written in C++ by me, with all assets crafted by Juan. The game garnered $300 in AdSense revenue and received over 100 perfect 5-star reviews, making it a standout success and a major topic of discussion at school. This achievement surprised many of my teachers, given my unconventional academic path.

Post-high school, Juan and I expanded our collaboration, forming "The Bold Firm" with another teammate. Operating out of our humble office (originally a storage room in a State Farm branch in Cedar Grove), we generated over $40,000 in revenue by creating web applications for diverse clients, ranging from boutique photography firms to startups that later secured VC incubation.

Our journey continued as we joined Round2, initially for contract work. Eventually, Juan assumed the role of Chief Design Officer, and I took on the position of Chief Technology Officer. I played a crucial role in shaping the technology stack for our MVP, securing funding, and achieving incubation. Although I eventually left Round2 to explore new opportunities in the corporate world, the experiences and lessons learned continue to fuel my passion for innovative development.

What I'm up to now

Currently I'm a senior frontend developer at FISERV, working on amazing products that some of the biggest companies in the world use. I head development on the Digital Dispursements Platform, a product Lyft uses to pay their drivers, State Farm uses to pay out policies & FEMA uses to pay out disaster funds.

I also work on ClientLine Enterprise, an industry leading analytics suite companies use to analyze point of sale(via online or storefront) data points, clients like McDonalds, Aldi's, Exxon, Best Buy & many others use it daily to get more information on things like decline reasons, store velocity, fraud & many other metrics. We're currently going through a rewrite converting from AngularJS to Angular17, I headed the architecture, creating a microfrontend system using Module Federation - which allows teams to operate on sub-applications with independent deployment cycles.

Who I am outside of work

I'm a father to a beautiful baby girl named Rory, husband to my amazing wife Erin & dog dad to our 2 shih-tzu's - Belle & Kiwi. My passions & hobbies include game development, playing games & watching football(Go Cowboys!). I used to be a competitive esports player, competing against competition from far and wide in the title Rainbow 6: Siege. I used my competitive experience to assist the Soniqs Esports organization with talent acquisition.

One day I hope to work for a game development organization such as Riot or Valve to further develop esports as a whole - Not to say I don't enjoy what I do now, but everyone has dreams!

I spend much of my day working on the amazing projects I mentioned above, but also love learning new technologies every chance I get. Currently I'm obsessing over Golang & htmx (which this website was developed with!), reading too many medium articles and watching too many YouTube videos on both of these technologies.

You can find me tweeting probably daily about random technical philosophies or technologies over on my twitter - or x account, whatever you prefer -> @jujuwritescode.

I will eventually be hosting a blog here & streaming some side development on my twitch where I'll walk people through my thought process during whichever development process I'll be streaming.
